1 Update: March, 2016 Based upon the recent update wherein the CDC advised the initial testing protocol was erroneous (see explanation below), our phones are ringing again with calls from concerned homeowners. What you should understand is the math change does have the potential to increase those potentially affected from 2-9/100,000 persons to 6-30/100,000 persons, the basic exposure limits as issued by those agencies who have established recommended limits, has not changed. What does this mean? It means, the CDC has decided that of those people who are afflicted with pulmonary issues such as asthma/allergies, more of them could be affected by overexposure or systemic exposure to formaldehyde gas – Period. The CDC has not issued exposure limits or made recommendations regarding exposure limits. Thus far, their primary recommendation is to open the windows; something we do not recommend to those with pulmonary issues in Florida by the way. If you have purchased the following products and you have noticed some irritation with eyes, throat or increased irritability, you may want to consider having your indoor air tested. You can also have the flooring material tested but you should understand most laboratories who do material testing are not accepting homeowner samples and the cost is very expensive. Here is the affected flooring material list, as we know it: Bristol County Cherry Laminate, 8 mm Dream Home Nirvana, French Oak laminate, 8mm Dream Home Kensington, Manor Antique Bamboo laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Oceanside Plank Bamboo laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Warm Springs Chestnut laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Sky Lakes Pine laminate, 15mm Dream Home Inspiri Chimney Tops Smoked Oak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Imperial Teak laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Vintner’s Reserve laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Cape Doctor laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Cumberland Mountain Oak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Ispiri Americas Mission Olive laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Glacier Peak Poplar laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Golden Teak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Handscraped Imperial Teak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Handscraped Summer Retreat Teak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Sandy Hills Hickory laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Tanzanian Wenge laminate, 12mm Dream Home Nirvana Royal Mahogany laminate, 8 mm Dream Home St. James Blacksburg Barn Board laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Brazilian Koa laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Golden Acacia laminate, 12mm Dream Home Ispiri Poplar Forest Oak laminate, 12mm Dream Home Kensington Manor Fumed African Ironwood laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James African Mahogany laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Chimney Rock Charcoal laminate, 12mm Dream Home St. James Nantucket Beech laminate, 12mm We have found some sites are listing SKU numbers but we do not recommend you go strictly by the retailers SKU number as they are easy to change. Who should I call? Only use the testing services of an Indoor Air Quality professional who holds certification as a Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC). What levels are considered high? We use the recommended exposure limits established by NIOSH for the 15 minute exposure limit of 100ppb. Note: We conduct the sample for 20 minutes while holding to the 15 minute exposure as a safety factor. Here is the recommended exposure chart by all agencies who have provided a recommended exposure list: (Please note you can click on the chart to enlarge.)
The USEPA or the CDC has not published a recommended exposure guideline.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss your situation or concern. As we are receiving many calls, we regret we simply do not have the time to discuss every aspect of your situation free of charge – sorry, but we have families to feed. We will be happy to provide a free quotation or to schedule your testing but if you want to discuss your home, we must charge for the consultation.
Our fee for a 15 minute telephone consultation is $75.00, payable by credit card. Again, obtaining a quote or schedule for testing is free.
If you wish to schedule testing of your home, we require a 50% deposit at the time of order with the balance payable at the time of testing.
